A Successful ADHD Entrepreneur Without Medication

It’s amazing but true that ADDers can become entrepreneurs without stimulant medication. I’ve learned that from my coaching and from my ADHD son who is in his 30’s and had a passion for a certain enterprise, followed it up and loves what he has chosen to do. Also, at the same time, he has a passion for the woman he fell in love with and is soon marrying. Having a passion for a career or relationship can override the need for medication. My son is happier now than he’s ever been.

Importantly, in his early 20’s my son, who had not yet “found himself” took stimulants, but found that they inhibited his creativity, and led him to be more alert, but over-focused in a narrow area. After he made that decision, his impulsivity became spontaneity, and his inappropriate risk-taking behaviors were channeled into creative thinking. This is because ADDers are “radar screeners” and often need to integrate information from various sources in their environment. In some ADDers, stimulant medication can change cognitive style in an unproductive way.

Do you know any ADDER who is a successful entrepreneur without stimulant medication?

I'm in my late 20's so it is great to hear that someone can learn to transition off medication even in adulthood. Thanks for the encouragement!
